The farm was announced by the smell before we saw it. Goats and pigs all mixed up on the same lot. The area is known as Cow Pen Road...possibly an hint at what used to here?

The Pine trees lining the road are the natural forest cover for some of the Bahamian islands and once supported a thriving logging industry.

The evening was overcast as we drove down the road; the Albany development along our left and the Sun Oil Power company ahead in the distance .

Some resort communities have not recovered from damage caused by the Category 4 Hurricane Matthew that swept the Bahamas in October 2016.

Knotted tangles of broken trees still mark the damage caused by Hurricane Matthew, 6 months ago in October 2016

Felled pines in a tangle along the windswept shore provide a backdrop to the resting place near the World War 2 monument at Clifton Pier. The high rise development at Albany is still visible in the distance across the waters. In the foreground...my hostess...Charlene.

The World War 2 monument on the beach bears testament to lives lost during a more turbulent period in our history. A little more background can be found at the link below.

Elevated coral reefs line this part of the South West coast. The exposed surfaces are rugged, sharp to touch and cracked with crevices that formerly sheltered an entire ecosystem. I tried imagining the area as it may have been under water.

BREEF (Bahamas Reef Environment Education Foundation) posted this video that helped me understand a lot more.

We spotted this Ray moving up a channel from a beach near Lyford Cay on the Western Side of New Providence. I know its not a Manta Ray. If, like me, you need some help to tell the difference...I found this article.

Boat owners will use this channel to access their homes in Lyford Cay. The Ray that I showed earlier was swimming up the same channel.
